As a business owner and resident in the East Market District of Louisville (2009-2011), Jennifer Charles was an active member of the East Market District Association (EMDA, now Nulu Business Association) and the chairperson of the Beautification Committee. The committee’s vision of improving the pedestrian experience in this art, artisan and local foods district translated into a simple intersection plan and inspiration image boards to show the community the possibilities. This simple presentation has evolved into a $13 million streetscape development project spanning 7 city blocks on East Market Street headed by landscape architecture firm CARMAN. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2015.
